Who are we?

We are the 2017-2018 officers of the LSU IISE Chapter.

We are a team looking to enhance the educational experience of our student members as they seek to become industry professionals.

What do we provide to our members?

SERC Conference – our favorite event of the year!

The IISE Southeast Regional Conference (SERC) is a three-day event focused on professional growth, leadership development, and networking. Hosted during the Spring of 2017, 200+ Industrial Engineering students from all major schools in the United States southeastern region will congregate at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Students will attend professional development workshops on topics like communication, leadership, personal branding, business etiquette, and interview preparation. Students will interact with industry professionals through keynote presentations that explore different areas of industrial engineering work from quality, manufacturing, and health services etc., as well as a career fair featuring companies recruiting industrial engineers. In addition, students will attend social events to network with other students who will become their future colleagues. These conferences provide aspiring young leaders with skills and the knowledge essential to their success as engineers, as well as strengthen the student and professional chapters in each region.

Corporate presentations at Chapter meetings

During our bi-weekly Chapter meetings, we have special presentations from companies who are interested in recruiting LSU Industrial Engineering students for internships, co-ops, and full-time positions.  These discussions are beneficial to both the student chapter members and the companies as both parties gain an insight into what the other is looking for to help find the perfect match between employee and employer.

Corporate Plant Tours

Plant tours held at facilities in the surrounding area allow our students to see how engineering work is applied in a real work environment at scale.

Lean Green Belt/Six Sigma Green Belt Professional Certifications

Once a semester an instructor is sent from the national organization for a weekend long green belt training course. The Lean Green Belt course is taught in the fall semester; students learn how to use the lean methodology of eliminating waste and achieving value-add in all processes in a continuous improvement objective. The Six Sigma Green Belt course is taught in the spring semester; students learn how to use the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) methodology to eliminating variability in complex systems. Students love these certifications because they make great resume and talking points during interviews, while setting them apart from other job candidates!

Budd{IE}s Mentorship Program – another favorite!

Our Mentorship program is intended to foster relationships between all new industrial engineering students and their older classmates . The program is a great way for transfer students and freshman to meet new friends and ease their transition into college, as well as gain helpful advice from their mentors.

End of the Year Banquet

The annual end of the year banquet brings together student and faculty members to honor graduates and celebrate our student members achievements over the previous year. Also, students serving in leadership positions welcome the new executive board for the coming year.
